Margaret Ella Faulk, daughter of Dr. William Mark and Ella Margaret Leland Faulk, was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on 28 December 1907. She was educated at Sullins College (in Bristol, Tennessee) and graduated from the University of Alabama and Columbia University.
